Some practice with painting cliffs with a new brush I made, and colors. I like how it came out technically and style wise. I just wish I spent more time on the composition.
Not bad. I like the water, however the river is too tailored and there should be more chaos upstream as a result of the waterfall. The waterfall is not far enough away to have such a gentle river flowing from it. Point to note is that those nice smooth river curves are usually more evident in river deltas and in wide canyons where the water has become slow.
It really looks nice, but there's something odd about the lighting. It looks like the sun is hard right from the lower shadowing, but looking down the canyon, it looks like the sun is up much higher, or even behind us a bit.
This kind of feels reminiscent of Tolkien's illustration (though admittedly rendered with a little more detail), at least to me it feels that way at any rate.
