Artist's Comments

Here's something you don't see from me often, space art! Although I don't really mention it, I love space. It's so mysterious and alluring to me, and the idea of extrasolar planets really intrigues me. (extrasolar means things outside of our own solar system)

What I like about space art in general, is that anything is possible. What I have painted here could very well exist somewhere in a galaxy far, far away.

I used various reference for this, looking at the art of a variety of sci-fi artists. However, I didn't go planet-happy like some of them do. :lmao: I believe there is beauty in simplicity. =)

This is the planet tutorial I used: [link] However, I did a few tricks of my own to get this Earth-like planet, rather than a random rocky one.

Enjoy!

It's so beautiful! You painted this? Wow! How did you get the stars down along with the meteors? Was this hand painted or in a program?

Wow, still, it blows my mind! My gosh, instant fav! x3

P.S. I love space too. It's so mysterious and welcoming. :3

Woah... nice work, I mean... everything looks awesome. The whole thing makes you want to go to space. Fantastic job.

If there is yin, then there is yang. One shouldn't be without the other, and life is the same.

Thanks! =D And yeah, I painted it all from scratch. :lmao:

As for the stars, most of them were done via "pattern maker" in Photoshop. However for the higher concentration stars for the galaxy arm, I had to add those manually with copy and paste. Also, the colored stars (which are hard to see unless you download), I had to add those by hand for a little variety. =)

The comets are were also done by hand. I started out with the "head", then added a tail, and then using free transform, I stretched it to my liking, and repeated that three times. I then dodged the head of the comet to make it glow, and then added a little light haze for effect, and to make the glowing more apparent. =)

Glad you like it!
