A trade with
 who wanted me to draw a new character of his, Hydrex.This was rather fun to do, but the lighting on the character was probably one of the hardest ones I have done. I was going to make the background look afternoon-ish, but figured it was too boring.  The grass was quite hard to do as well.And yes, I know the eyes are boring.  If anyone has got any tips to make them more life-like, please say so!Hope you like it, DC! Hydrex (c) EDIT: Attempted to add a wink. Does it look natural? EDIT2: Edited the wink a few times, hoping the compression "residue" is just me.  EDIT3: Re-adjusted lighting on swimsuit Comments Saw this on the front page.

 Well, if you want opinion, I'm always good for that~!
Firstly, as always your background is amazing. And that grass! You even jazzed it up with those little catkins in there! Terrific! As fer the eyes... I'd say reflection except I don't think he's really in the light enough for that. I'd say an iris, but that isn't quite your thing is it? If you were delicate(and I know you are!), some contour/shading to the eyeball could add some realisim, as he's in the shade at least. Perhaps a smidge of eyelid? With the pose, he might look good winking, but that might be alot of work to go back on. Well I had alot of thoughts there, shoot them down at your leisure, cap'n!  Love the whole thing! Looks great

I quickly took what you suggested regarding the eye, and as for winking, I just tried to do it. Does it look natural? hmmmm~ the eye doesn't seem to be entirely closed, i think i see a sliver of white'n pupil. Also i thinnnk (you tell me) it'd look a bit more natural if the ... nose-side bottom of his eye curved slightly up instead of slightly down. because there his cheek isn't covering the bottom of his eye, so you'd see the upward curve of his lower lid being shut rather than the downward curve of his cheek, right? I havn't gotten a wink i'm 100% proud of, personally, so i'm not sure but I thiiiink it'd help.

Oh, I'm here. You touched up the eyebrow~? I think it looks good now. But I've been staring at it too much so my judgement may be getting off!!~ if anybody else offers an opinion i'd listen to it.
He's totally got a, "Hey baby, I can swim with or without these trunks on!" look. Assumin Hydrex is supposed to be cool and greatly enjoys swimmin' with the lay-days, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! haha |
